b. 17 Nov 1833 Wootton Bassett, Wiltshire, Eng.; d. 1 Oct. 1916 aged 83 yrs. 15 Feb 1842 Arrived at Nelson on the ship "Lloyds". Daughter of Robert NEWTH and Edith OGBOURNE.                                                       







































Wedding at Mr. Newths, Waimea East where they were living at the time.  Occupation given as farmer.
Witnesses were William Newth and Eliza Newth.
The Newth brickyard and clay pits were fairly close to "Teetotal Corner" or Milton House, the Andrews dwelling, so that John marrying Julia should be no surprise.
Death registered at Wakefield office aged 67 yrs.
Doctor for both John and Julia was W. Hugh Pearless.
Buried with wife and daughter Minnie Lindora in block 12, plots 90/91.

1866 pt sec 23 Waimea East
1870 & 1874 sec 34 and sec 17 (lease 50 acres) no mention after 1875.
Sec 34 was originally owned by Wm snr and sec 17 by William jnr.
Freeholders of NZ 1882 (pg22) shows John as Farmer Brightwater - 32 acres 850 pounds.
Wises shows a John Andrews in Brightwater in 1878/9 and in 1894/5 also a John, farmer, Brightwater.

Spelt Lucila in marriage register index. Death registered at Wakefield office Julia Lucilla 83 yrs.
She and her husband had 11 children:

      Rd., Nelson and buried a day later on the 9th October.  Married ALFRED NEIMAN 15th December  1882,  in  residence of John Andrews,                      Brightwater, Nelson.
      Alfred b: 1859 in Spring Grove, Nelson, NZ. m. 15 Dec  d. abt. 29 Sep 1944 in Nelson, NZ.  Burial: 01  Oct 1944 in Wakapuaka, Nelson, N Z. Father:         Ferdinand NIEMANN       Mother: Mary PRITCHARD                                                       

Cause of death coma, apoplexy, myocardialdegeneration. Some sources suggest died at Ahaura, West Coast!

  2. RALPH (Bob) OGBORN ANDREWS b. 31 July 1858 Spring Grove, Nelson. Died 30th April 1925
      Palmerston North and buried 2nd May 1925 in Palmerston North. Married ELLEN JANE NEWTH 1880.

Died from cancer of tonsil. Occupation: engineer.

  3. EDITH LILY ANDREWS b. 14 October 1860 Spring Grove, Nelson; d. 26 May 1947 Belgrove, Nelson; m. 7 Dec 1881 Spring Grove, Nelson to           JOHN PATTULO BANKS

Wakefield Reg. Office: Marriage applic. 7/12/1881. Death 26/5/1947 aged 86 yrs.

  4. JOHN HUGH ANDREWS b. 25 Nov 1862 Spring Grove, Nelson d. 17 Jul 1958 Tuamarina, Havelock.
       m. ANNIE JONES 6 Jan 1891.

May well have lived in or around Havelock area.



























  5. VINCENT WILLIAM ANDREWS b. 20 Aug. 1864 Spring Grove, Nelson; d. 28 Oct 1928 Masterton:
      m. 12 July 1890 Masterton to ELIZABETH ANNE WELLS. Later married DELIA LEVICK on the 22nd  Dec 1919.

Spent most of his life in Masterton. Died there aged 64yrs, buried plot 2152 Masterton Cem.(Methodist minister).  Died of pernicious anemia - treated for three yrs by Dr. JA Cowie.
Occupation: Machinist (Timber) lived in Masterton after leaving Nelson.
Occupation given as Flaxdresser at time of son John's birth.
He apparently managed several sawmills. He owned Lot 89 Section 57/8 in George St. (now called Bentley). and it was transferred to Delia Andrews who already owned 81 Villa St. (sections may back on one another)!

  6. EDWARD ALFRED ANDREWS b. 15th July 1866, Spring Grove, Nelson. Died 19th Nov 1947 Mt.  Albert,  Auckland. Married ANNIE                        McKENZIE 3 Sep 1891, Wellington.

Lived in Mt. Albert, Auckland as did his sister Beatrice.
In 1890 Edward Alfred was a witness at his brother's wedding in Masterton and described himself as a "Farmer, Masterton". An advertisement in the Wairarapa Daily Times on Tuesday 6th Nov 1894 announced an auction of the contents of Mr. E.A.Andrews' residence opposite the Star Hotel, Masterton. He was said to be leaving Masterton. Goods included a child's cot and reversible chair.
In Electoral rolls:
1896/7 & 1898/9 there was Edward Andrews, Richmond Rd, Ponsonby.
1906 he appeared as labourer, Nile St East, Nelson.
1909 he appeared same address but occupation farmer.
In 1910, 1911, 1913,1915, & 1917 Edward Alfred Andrews showed as farmer, New North Rd., Mt. Albert.
In 1916 there was Miss Andrews, Gt. North Rd AH.
In Wises directories for Auckland:
Edward Alfred appears in New North Rd (RH side from Morningside) for 1916, 1917, 1919, 1920, 1921, 1922,  & 1923.  In 1924-25 Mrs Annie Andrews was at no. 643.

  7. MINNIE LINDORA ANDREWS b. January 1869 Spring Grove, Nelson; d. 6 Jan. 1958 Richmond, Nelson. Buried 8th Jan 1958 St. Paul's,                     Brightwater, Nelson.
                                                                                                                                     
In 1880 Minnie was in Std. 4. Spinster. Deaf.

  8. WILLIAM ROBERT ANDREWS b. 30 Dec 1870, Spring Grove Nelson;d. 10 Dec 1950 Richmond, Nelson; m. 22 Oct 1901 Wakefield Reg. Off.,             Wakefield, Nelson to ELLEN NEAL.

River Terrace School Records: William Andrews left for Spring Grove 10 Aug. 1881. Spring Grove School Records: William Andrews b. 20 Dec. 1870 admitted 7 Jan 1883, left 9 Dec. 1885 to work on farm. William Andrews re-admitted 4 May 1886, left 4 Dec 1886 to work on farm in Brightwater. River Terrace School Records: William Andrews admitted 6 Dec 1886 left for Brightwater.
Marriage application and registered same day at Wakefield Reg. Office - 22 October 1901.
William was Borough Council Foreman for many years, a long serving volunteer fireman, a member of the Foresters Lodge and, I am given to understand, a regular at the :Star and Garter". As far back as I (Neil Stewart) can remember, he had a number of model T Ford tourers but I cannot recall it being used for other than Sunday drives. Travel to Nelson was by steam train or Crouchers buses. At a later stage there was a Rover 10 tourer.

  9.BEATRICE MAUD ANDREWS b. 15th Nov 1872 Spring Grove, Nelson. Died 7th May 1961. Married 26th May 1901 Oxford, Canterbury to                CHARLES SUMMERFIELD.                                                    
                                                                                                                                                   
In the Auckland directories 1960/1 Mrs. Bea Summerfield lived at 82 Lloyd Av East in Mt. Albert. Directories for 1950/1 show Chas Summerfiels living at 72 Lloyd Ave East. In 1958.
Died Waimarie Private Hospital. Cremated at Purewa (Auckland) 9/5/1961. Apparently had been living at 34 Waimarie St., St. Heliers - presumeably with her daughter, Maud. Died of "General haemorrhage, Arteriosclerosis & Senile decay". Widowed at time of death.
Three daughters Maud SUMMERFIELD, Elsie Morris SUMMERFIELD and Janet Cecilia SUMMERFIELD. 

10. THOMAS (TOM) NELSON ANDREWS  Born 16th Jan 1875 Brightwater, Nelson. Married 27th May 1903 Nelson to ROSE EMILIE                         SCHWASS.

Birth in 1875 is folio 209. Spring Grove School records: Thomas Andrews b. Oct. 1874 admitted 4 May 1886, left for Brightwater. Thomas Andrews b. Oct 1874 admitted 11 June 1888 left 10 Aug. 1888 for Brightwater. Brightwater School records : Aug. 1888. Worked for Newman Bros. then Transport Nelson.
Wakefield Register has the marriage application dated 25 May 1903 and the marriage itself on the 27th May 1903. Second name "Nelson" from marriage certificate. Remained in Nelson living in Port area.

11. ALBERT HENRY (HARRY) ANDREWS b. 23 Aug 1876 Spring Grove, Nelson; d. 19 Apr 1943 Nelson: m. 5 (or 12) Feb 1902 to LOUISA                  MARGARET DOROTHEA WINDELBURN.

Spring Grove School records: Henry Andrews b. Dec 1877 admitted 1882 left 4 Nov 1885 to work. Henry Andrews b. Dec 1877 admitted 4 May 1886, left for Brightwater. Henry Andrews b. Dec 1877 admitted 4 June 1888, left 10 Aug 1888 for Brightwater. Brightwater School records: Henry Andrews admitted from Spring Grove 13 Aug 1888, left for work 26 Aug. 1889. Application for marriage 5 Feb. 1902, Wakefield Office.
He worked at the Flour Mill at Brightwater and later drove collecting cream for the Waimea Dairy Co. Apparently became ill but recovered and helped in the carrying business.

The photo of Albert Andrews was taken here in Wanganui where they lived for several years.  His wifes parents owned a coach business called Hurleys I think and Albert worked for them while they lived in Wanganui.
